Dan ENGLAND
This well-known Norfolk Millwright from Ludham, Dan
was in trade for 66 years, until his death, aged 80. He built the mills at Langley, Horsey, Somerton, St Olaves,
and Martham.
He started as a millwright and engineer at the age
of 14. He built the mills listed above, and also made improvements in mill turbines which was invented by his
father, D.C. ENGLAND. He installed this on many large Estates in East Anglia - 5 on the Langley Estate for drainage
purposes. He carried out work in all drainage areas in Norfolk.
The ENGLAND family have done this sort of work for
the last 300 years.
Dan was a bachelor and lived with his sister.
Following his death, the business was carried on by his only brother - Lionel, and his nephew
Albert.
